COCHLEAR IMPLANTS

A Cochlear Implant is an electronic device that is implanted into the ear for patients with profound and severe to profound nerve deafness. It has also shown promise in patients with moderate to severe sensorineural hearing loss who have limited benefit with hearing aids.

Other indications for a cochlear implant include patients with one sided sensorineural deafness (called SSD, single sided deafness) who wish for better speech intelligibility in noise and wish to use the dead ear for sound localization.

A cochlear implant program requires detailed pre surgical evaluation by an audiologist, a clinical psychologist, a top notch surgical team for implantation and a state of the art rehabilitation unit.
